To fix the compaction, we use core aeration services to loosen up that soil to allow air, water, and light to reach further into the soil. We usually pair this with overseeding so seeds can also pass down into the dirt to establish a stronger root system. What Is Core Aeration & When We Offer It
The process of core aeration involves running an aerator machine across your lawn. As the machine passes over the lawn, it pokes tiny holes into the soil and brings up plugs of soil. By doing this, we loosen the soil and give the roots of your grass a chance to breathe.
Core aeration should be done once a year to keep your soil loose and breathable. We offer aeration services in both the spring and fall. Fall aeration is usually offered in September while spring aeration is done once lawns come out of winter dormancy.
Why Overseeding Should Be Paired with Aeration
At EnviroPro Land, we generally advise that aeration services be paired with overseeding. Since aeration opens up holes in the soil, it is a prime moment to overseed your lawn. The seeds will sink deeper into the ground, establishing a stronger root system. We overseed with both perennial ryegrass and annual ryegrass.
Aeration and overseeding can be included in our lawn care program if you would like to add those services along with fertilization and weed control.
Dethatching, Slit Seeding, & Verticutting Services
Along with aeration and overseeding, we also offer other lawn care services. We can dethatch your yard, which means we remove the buildup of dead grass and other debris that sits on top of your soil. A bit of thatch can be beneficial, but too much will impede your lawn from growing correctly.
If you'd prefer slit seeding instead of overseeding, we can do that after we aerate your lawn. Before aeration, we can also provide verticutting services. Verticutting is another way of removing thatch from your lawn that may be used for more fragile lawns.
